How Luxer One Maintains Uptime During Inclement Weather and Unprecedented Events

Theaters aren’t the only places we are seeing Twisters these days! Not to mention the “digital storm” from the CrowdStrike error bringing down tech products nationwide. As Hurricane season gets into full swing and inclement weather is on the rise, there are a few things property managers should monitor when utilizing both indoor and outdoor locker units.

With resident safety and building integrity to worry about, property managers should not have to worry that systems will break at any moment. At Luxer One, we pride ourselves on designing state-of-the-art systems inside and out to maintain a continuous uptime regardless of what’s happening in the environment.

In fact, in Texas a tornado blew through a Home Depot in town and brought the whole store down with the Luxer Lockers as the only thing left standing. Thankfully everyone had evacuated the store earlier that day and remained safe!

Preparing for Inclement Weather

If Luxer Lockers are utilized outside, there are multiple features built in to help protect from potential water damage including roofing units to protect from the rain plus slightly-tilted shelves and rain lips to direct water away from pooling inside.

Each install is handled with the utmost care and our teams work diligently in the planning process to ensure units are well protected and built to withstand the elements.

Whether your property is in the blistering heat of Texas or the bitter cold of Minnesota, our units are equipped to withstand extreme conditions. Luxer Lockers are one-of-a-kind with the use of iPads as an operating screen.

Keeping these iPads at a stable temperature is crucial to ensuring systems stay up and running. Most units are installed in outdoor areas that are shaded or partially covered to protect the systems and some even utilize screen flaps to protect against sun damage.

Internally, outdoor units are equipped with Thermal Electric Cooler (TEC) units that are directly attached to the iPad to prevent overheating. Depending on your area or the season you may need to have the settings of the TEC unit changed from cool to hot or vice versa.

If the TEC unit includes a switch, it’s easy for maintenance staff to help change it over when the season changes without any need for special equipment. If needed, a technical support person can walk them through the process. If the TEC does not include a switch, a technician will be needed to reset the system to the appropriate temperature.

Preparing for Outages

When inclement weather leads to power outages, the Luxer Lockers utilize the APC battery backup included in every locker. When power goes down, the battery can provide backup power for up to two hours. These batteries are built to protect against power fluctuations, too. If there are surges or interruptions the system will ensure continuous operation of critical equipment.

Even on the clearest of days internet access can be finicky. When the internet is down, the Luxer Lockers utilize bluetooth connection to allow continued use of the system. Carriers are still able to make deliveries and residents are able to pick up packages.

The resident mobile app allows users to easily tap the “open locker door” button within range of the unit to grab their items. The only delayed aspect of the system is that notifications will not go out until the internet is restored.
